Community resources

The following community groups and organizations offer support and assistance before, during and after a separation or divorce.

  • Legal aid
The Commission des services juridiques sees to it that legal aid services are provided to financially eligible persons, free of charge or on payment of a contribution.

  • Fédération des associations de familles monoparentales et recomposées du Québec (FAFMRQ)
This non-profit federation defends the rights of single-parent families and reconstituted families in Québec. The federation supports several regional organizations that assist families going through a separation or divorce. Certain local member organizations provide support services specifically for separating fathers.

  • Local community services centres (CLSCs)
Various support services are provided by psychologists and social workers in Québec's CLSCs. Couples in difficulty may consult these specialists, whether their problems are family-related (separation, divorce, spousal violence, turbulent parent-child relationships) or more personal (depression, addiction, loss, adjustment to serious illness, etc.).

  • S.O.S Violence conjugale
A call can bring immediate assistance to victims of spousal violence. This organization provides a free, bilingual, confidential telephone line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, throughout Québec.
