Exemption from compulsory collection

Responsibility : Ministère de la Justice

Although the support-payment collection program normally applies to all former spouses, payments can be made without involving Revenu Québec if both former spouses agree. They must apply to the courts for an exemption to allow one spouse to make support payments directly to the other spouse.

However, the spouse required to make payments must provide Revenu Québec with security covering one month’s payment, in the form of a sum of money or a letter of guarantee or suretyship from a financial institution.
