If you are married, you may decide to separate legally or divorce without using the services of a lawyer. You must prepare all the proceedings yourself and file a joint application for divorce based on a draft agreement, according to the rules prescribed by law. Model applications are available on the Justice Website.
You may use family mediation to help reach an agreement with your former spouse concerning all aspects of your separation (child custody, visiting and outing rights, support payments, family patrimony, etc.). Following the mediation sessions, the draft agreement signed by both former spouses can be used to prepare a joint application for divorce.
Note
If you decide to proceed without a lawyer, you should gather information about your rights.
