Tax treatment of spousal support (also known as "alimony")

Responsibility : Revenu Québec

If you receive spousal support payments, you must include them as income in your income tax return. Similarly, a spouse who makes spousal support payments can deduct them from his or her income. It is important to note that child support payments are tax-neutral.

Note
Similar rules apply for federal income tax.
