If you have a civil union contract, the civil union regime you choose will determine the relationship between the spouses and define who owns and administers the joint property. The contract may also state how the property will be divided in the event of a separation, a dissolution of the civil union, or the death of one of the spouses. In the event of a separation, the rules governing the partition of the family patrimony take precedence over the stipulations of the civil union regime.
